Event Management Dissertation Research

In collaboration with Bob Toovey at Event Planning News and Jack Saward at Saward Marketing & Events, Claire is developing an open-access resource for the publication and promotion of student research projects. The research will be selected on the basis of its relevance to industry and the insights developed. The site will have both video and written summaries of each piece of research together with the full paper available for download. Claire’s role with this project focuses on ensuring that the project engages with the student and wider academic body and draws industry and academia closer together.

Event Industry Forum – Value of Outdoor Events Research

Via The Power of Events, Claire has been commissioned to deliver a national piece of research evaluating the economic and social value of the outdoor events sector. This sector is a diverse and highly dynamic part of the events industry ranging from agricultural shows to major music festivals, and from creative processions to community celebrations. This research will be published in April 2026. Operation Nexus

This project, funded by the UON Learning & Teaching Innovation Fund and led by Claire, is creating a live event control simulation with the team at Silverstone and based on Claire’s PhD research. In collaboration with the Criminal Justice courses at UON, this simulation will not only be for events students but also for those studying criminology, law and policing, creating an in-depth, realistic and valuable learning experience to develop skills that cannot be taught in the classroom.

British Science Festival – Risk Management Consultancy

Having delivered comprehensive safety documentation for the 2024 Festival, Claire has been commissioned by the British Science Association to review and develop the risk mitigation plans and protocols for the 2025 British Science Festival in London. In this process, she is also developing security and staffing plans and embedding compliance with Martyn’s Law across the festival.

Creative Project Development – Kit Plaschkes

Kit came up with an idea and she came to Claire to make it a reality. Claire and Kit are developing and producing a brand new luxury event experience drawing together food, music, storytelling and an extraordinary venue to tell a tale that has never been told before. Claire is leading on the financial and operational aspects of the project, building strategic partnerships to support the collaboration for this project and beyond. More coming soon!

Identity/IMPACCT – Tender bid writing

An opportunity arose to work with the teams at Identity and IMPACCT to develop a bid for a programme of work to support the G7 Summit in Cornwall in June 2021. In her proposed role of Director of Operations, Claire developed the overall operational delivery plan for the tender including staffing, suppliers, layout, look and feel and delivery schedule. This project had many variables yet to be determined and Claire played a key role in navigating the situation to reach a viable and compelling fulfilment proposal.

Skate Cornwall

Alongside Founder Ben, Claire is developing the business plan and financial forecasts for this new umbrella organisation for roller sports in Cornwall. With short term planning to establish the organisation and build partnerships, the long term vision is for a dedicated roller facility in mid-Cornwall that supports all ages in roller hockey, roller derby and leisure skating, promoting health and fitness as well as re-building competitive activity.
